A recent article in Newsweek, http://www.newsweek.com/id/157548/page/1, details the progress or lack of progress made in "curing" cancer. I invite you to read this article as it is very enlightening.
Although much progress has been made in early detection of cancer tumors, the standard practice is to surgically remove the "known" cells and then treat with chemo and pronounce the patient "cancer free". In fact, there is almost always cancer cells left in the body that remains evasive and surfaces again at a later date.
Dr. Mark Davis' solution to this problems seems to be the first to take a direct hit at the cancer cells without doing extreme harm to the body while taking the treatment.
Clearly there needs to be a "Rethinking" of the War on Cancer. Much support needs to be directed to the work that Dr. Davis is doing. Perhaps someone reading this blog will be able to help direct funding that will allow the clinical trials to be funded on a larger scale and speed up the process. Lives depend on it!

Additional Information regarding CalTech & Donation Information
Dr. Mark Davis has confirmed that his wife's breast cancer has not returned. She continues to suffer from the damage that the chemo did (like hearing loss), but she is leading an active life.
IF YOU WISH TO SUPPORT DR. DAVIS' RESEARCH:
The California Institute of Technology (CalTech) is a 501 (c)(3) organization and has been qualified by the IRS to accept and receipt charitable contributions made to the Institute, its Labs and affiliates. Any gift should be made out to CalTech or the California Institute of Technology and in an accompanying memo specify that your gift is to be used to support Dr. Davis' research and laboratory. In the memo portion of the check also specify that the gift is to be used to support Dr. Davis' research and laboratory. Your contact if you have any questions is:
Joseph Boeke, Director of Development Operations, California Institute of Technology, 616-395-8001 (voice). Email: jrboeke@dar.caltech.edu. You should also check with your own tax advisor if you have any questions.
Current Status:
The drug is currently in Phase II trials for ovarian cancer, and the time to approval depends on how well the clinical trials proceed.
A second Phase II trial in lymphoma will begin shortly. Thus far, they have found that it works for a variety of tumors and they do not know at this time which tumors it works best in. They are very excited by the results they have observed thus far and are keeping their fingers crossed that in these murch larger clinical trials that they will see similar results.

Search for the Cure
The Beginning: by Lloyd Stone.
After my wife, Peggy, passed away from a re-occurrence of breast cancer, I decided to find a way to help in supporting cancer research. We knew that there had to be a better way to treat cancer than the current state of Chemo which basically kills all cells in order to try to kill the cancer cells. Quite often some cancer cells survive and later spread to other parts of the body.
A Chance Encounter:
A few months ago, I happened to see a documentary on Nova Science of a trial drug that had been created by Dr. Mark Davis of CalTech. The documentary was fascinating and life changing.
Dr. Davis was working on chemical compositions for commercial research purposes when his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. They found the Chemo treatments to be very severe and both agreed that there must be a better way. From that point, Dr. Davis changed his focus to research on cancer treatment. He first spent a considerable amount of time researching available literature and then spent the next ten years working on a better treatment.
Cancers start out as tumors. Almost immediately, blood vessels form to feed the tumor. Dr. Davis reasoned that if the blood vessels could be made to disappear that the tumor would be starved! This is the approach that he took and he researched thousands of chemicals to find the right one(s) to cause the blood vessels to stop feeding the tumor.
The Documentary:
The documentary that I saw was regarding the first patient that was ever treated with this new medical chemical formulation. The patient was a man suffering from lung cancer and had a life expectancy of two months. The documentary shows the first IV treatment. There were no major side effects and after two to three treatments, the scans started to show "holes" in the tumors where they were being starved and dying.
The documentary was filmed in 2006. The patient is still alive over two years later!
I felt so compelled by this documentary and the dedication of Dr. Mark Davis, that I decided to search for him on the Internet. I have subsequently made contact with Dr. Davis who is still at CalTech working to get his new chemical formulation, now called IT-101, through the various clinical trials and to the market.
You can follow the progress of Dr. Mark Davis and his new cancer treatment at: http://www.calandopharma.com/. In a later blog I will let you know how to donate directly to his laboratory through a tax deduct able organization if someone wishes. I am in no way connected to CalTech or Dr. Mark Davis but feel strongly about his research and the possible fantastic outcome of his new treatment.
I would like to hear of other's who would like to share their stories and experiences.
Together we can find a cure!
